I’ve never understood the “hate” for the end of Lost. The writers strike + plus not knowing how long they were going to need to stretch out the show we’re tough in the middle seasons, but a lot of people were saying “oh see they were just in purgatory the whole time,” and I felt like they must have been watching a different show or something.
I kind of feel the same. I also wonder what kind of ending would have been satisfying for those who didn't like it. When the show was new and the possible explanations were endless, and you theorized with your friends about what was happening, that was when the show was the most fun. If that's what made the show fun, then ANY conclusion at the end would've felt different (and disappointing) compared to the beginning.

The beginning of the series had all these mysteries that seemed to be going somewhere and the finale treated all those mysteries as unimportant.
