Well, a lot of stuff has happened, so I thought I’d do a Fupdate (fun + update because I update you, and it’s fun). Let’s get to it.
Daily Wire Kids
So Jeremy Boering made an announcement last week that they’re going to invest $100 million into kids programming to take on Disney. So now you know a lot of what I’m working on for Daily Wire which I wasn’t at liberty to talk about before. He also announced our first show, Chilla Time, about a family of homeschooling chinchillas, about which I’ve already written two scripts and have helped with the story on others. He also announced Doodles with Noodles, a drawing show hosted by our very own Ethan Nicolle, who seems strangely right for hosting a kids show. Anyway, we don’t expect any of it to premiere until next year, but it’s so great to be working with Ethan Nicolle and Eric Branscum on kids programming as I have never done this before and it is all still weird and scary to me. Anyway, I’ll tell you more as soon as I’m able.
And we are working on a few things that maybe you’ll get to see much. Ooh. Mysterious.
Man, not even a month into being a full-time writer, and suddenly I’m supposed to take down Disney. Well, wish me luck and keep me in your prayers.
Novels Update
So, Superego: Betrayal is out (you all got a copy, right?). Releasing that distracted me from finishing up the sequel to Hellbender for beta readers, but I plan to ask for beta readers later this week (and I will make the beta version available to all paid subscribers of this Substack). If you’re interested in being a beta reader for the Hellbender sequel, just be signed up to this Substack, and you’re good.
And for those of you who have read Superego: Betrayal, you know there still must be another sequel. I plan to start writing the fourth Superego this month now that I’ve finished my short story for The Shaper of World’s Volume III (BTW, that Kickstarter got fully funded, but you can still join it and get that book with my story for it which I think is a pretty awesome science fiction thriller). So, I guess I better get to figuring out what happens in Superego 4 (tentatively titled Superego: Echoes). I’ve known how the story ends since the second Superego, but I’m still missing a few steps.
And a lot of people have been asking about the audiobook for Superego: Betrayal. I’m working with Joel Richards (who narrated the first two on that). He’s helping me get a second narrator for it (I think anyone who has read Superego: Betrayal would know why). Hopefully, that should be great again.
Oh, and I will eventually get to sending out signed copies of Superego: Betrayal to people at the Founder level, but it’s going to be a week or so before I have my paperback copies in hand.
Let’s Talk About This Substack
So, when I started this Substack, I had just left The Babylon Bee and was very happy to work as an engineer to support my family and do this paid Substack on my novel writing on the side just for fun. Now I’m a full-time writer needing to use a lot of my creativity in my day job, and I’m not sure I can keep up getting up at 5am to do my side writing before my day job of writing. Still, I have several more novels in me (including the conclusion to the Superego saga), and I really like this space here in my Substack to just do what I want. So I’m going to try and integrate things and use this as a scratchpad for ideas that maybe I might sometimes use for The Daily Wire. That means mainly focusing on little dumb stories (like this one) which are the things I enjoy writing the most (I kind of miss writing those In My World posts for my old blog if any of you had read those). I also want to make space for writing longer short stories (like this one — and I feel like I should find a way to distinguish those more from other content). That doesn’t mean that’s all I’ll be doing — I plan a different sort of premium post this week — but that’s going to be my focus because that’s what I enjoy. And thanks again to all who have signed up to this Substack; your support means a lot. It’s been a crazy past few months for me, but in a good way.
And just because I didn’t think this update was fun enough, here’s a picture of Winchester enjoying his very first ice cream cone.
Later, guys! If you have any questions, just hit me in the comments.
I'm just here for the Winchester pix. ❤
I will never not like a post with a picture of Winchester. I assume he took his monocle off to eat?
