Is Modern Society Possible Without Violence?
A thought experiment
Things are certainly much more peaceful with modern civilization — fewer wars, less killing, less just plain beating each other up. You might even get the idea that with the most modern, elitist societies, there isn’t any violence at all.
Which leads me to what I find to be an interesting thought experiment: Is modern society possible if violence were not an option?
Let’s say violence completely disappeared as an option — like via a magic spell or something. No one is able to use force against another human being. Could modern society exist in this world?
I mean, it seems at first silly to ask. If no one could hurt or steal from each other (let’s put theft under the use of force), there would be fewer problems to worry about. Modern society should flourish.
Except that the government would probably collapse.
