So, Substack automatically makes a list of my most popular posts, but I have no idea what metric it uses to populate that list. It doesn’t seem to be based on likes or comments or views exactly. Anyway, I thought I’d make my own list of posts I thought were my best for those of you who haven’t been here since the beginning and can maybe find some great stuff you missed. Some of it will be paywalled (there’s still a 33% off sale on subscriptions for two more days, by the way), but a lot isn’t, so hopefully, you all enjoy.
Anyway, here is a non-comprehensive list of some of my best posts in no particular order.
Hellbender: The Bit — It’s a short story of Hellbender focusing on Lulu and taking place probably after the second book — but there are no spoilers if you read it before either book.
A Lady’s Guide to Fighting Vicious Animals — An important guide for women who don’t have the self-confidence to fight a wolf or a goose. I later did another one of these type guides, this time helping ladies land a plane in an emergency situation.
Sidequest: Confidence — A short story that takes place after Sidequest. I definitely recommend reading the novel first.
The Merchant — A story that’s a combination of my two favorite subjects: video games and economics.
Cultural Differences — One of my favorite niche fun shorts. I just liked my characterization of Samus Aran; it makes sense she’d be socially awkward.
Godwin’s Law — A Substack exclusive short story sequel to Who Murdered the Dinosaurs?. It centers on a murder mystery around Twitter.
The Demon Capitalism — Okay, this short story has a political message, but it’s very important.
My Top Ten The Babylon Bee Articles — Making my list is another list — list inception! I spent a while going over my favorite The Babylon Bee articles I wrote, but I decided to pair all those down to my favorite ten.
Free Rings — A story I wrote that still makes me laugh when I read it because it’s so dumb. Instead of Rings of Power, read my version of how Sauron tricked people into taking the rings.
Origin Story — A very special Substack exclusive superhero short story made in multiple parts. Actually, it’s long enough to be classified as a novella. Looking back on it, I think I should have introduced Harvey earlier.
This Looks Like a Job For… — Batman is my favorite superhero, but he does come off kind of silly when standing next to the other heroes of the Justice League.
Okay, there was my non-comprehensive list of some of my favorite posts here. If you have any favorite posts, put them in the comments. I always like feedback on what you enjoy.
I liked the top ten lists of nothing in particular. If you were to do one of those again, you should put this post in it: then you’d have a list inside a list inside a list!
