Origin Story: Epilogue
“The Pink Princess is gone.”
“A real-life supervillain,” the anchorwoman announced.
Footage showed the Cowl with his mask off, being taken in by the U.S. military.
“Billionaire Max Stratton, a.k.a., the Cowl, a.k.a. Armored Justice, attempted to launch a nuclear missile at Chicago.”
“Interesting choice,” commented her cohost.
“The missile was a dud, though,” the anchorwoman continued, “and hit down harmlessly near the Mokovian village of...” The anchorwoman squinted. “If the teleprompter isn’t spelling it out phonetically, I’m not even attempting it.”
“But a true superhero has emerged and helped bring Max Stratton to justice,” the anchorman stated. “The Ocean Commander!”
Footage played of Splash at a press conference. “Yes, that traitor, the Cowl, and his accomplice, Fatale, had taken down the rest of the Protectors, but they were no match for me, the Ocean Commander. Even though the hero Fly-Over is no more, I want to assure everyone the world is still in good hands.” He winked at the cameras. “Or at least two-thirds of it.”
“In other news,” the anchorwoman said solemnly, “the Pink Princess is gone.” She then smiled. “She’s now the Pink Avenger.”
“Was she kicked out of the pink monarchy?” the anchorman asked with a chuckle.
“I think it’s a rebranding.”
There was an image of a smiling Madeline in her new superhero outfit. It was just as pink as the first, but now it had pants instead of a miniskirt.
“The Pink Avenger, a.k.a. Madeline Larson,” the anchorwoman continued, “had joined a rogue superhero group and killed two heads of state of the country of Mokovia. The Hague has declined to try her, though, since she says both killings were accidents and she’s really sorry and won’t ever be a rogue superhero again. Also, Mokovia is in the middle of a civil war, and it’s unclear who is in charge.”
“I hope that works out for them,” the anchorman commented.
“As for the Pink Avenger, she is now back to working for the Protectors and learning to be a proper superhero.”
Madeline finished watching the news clip on her phone. Most of the reactions to her “reforming” seemed to have been positive.
“It’s time,” Faulkner told her.
