The fate of this Substack now that I'm again working for The Babylon Bee

I first started this Substack after I left The Babylon Bee so it would be my humor and creative outlet — that was back in December 2021 when I made the decision to write regularly here. Then there was a whole thing with me working for the Daily Wire, but now I’m back to being an engineer full-time with writing on the side. That would seem a good time to dedicate more writing time to this — but now I’m also working with The Babylon Bee again (pitching headlines along with doing video work).

So there’s my problem. I only have so much spare creative time, and I’m getting burned out trying to come up with funny stuff for the Bee and here (while keeping this distinct).

But there’s another kind of writing I’d like to keep up — my fiction. Currently, the fourth Superego is almost ready for beta readers while I plot out the third Hellbender (and have a few other story ideas brewing).

Now, I already mentioned I was planning to do the third Hellbender chapter by chapter on this Substack. To accomplish that, I was going to first completely plot it out. It was a nice idea, but it was like pulling teeth and just not how I do things.

So instead, I’m going to try something a little bit scary: I’m just going to go ahead and start writing it, and as soon as I have a few chapters ready, I’m going to start publishing it here. And I’m going to try that for my next stories as well.

That’s my plan to keep this Substack going and give myself something to write for every day: I’m going to publish my novel writing straight to it — first Hellbender 3 and then whatever stories come next. That might mean somewhat sparser posting (though I’ll keep putting out regular updates on my other projects), but I hope it will make this worthwhile.
