Well, bit of sad news: I’ve been let go from The Daily Wire. There were a lot of good people there I enjoyed working with. Plus, I was working on some really neat AI projects. It was a neat experience, but now it is over.
So, now I need to figure out what to do next. I actually started doing paid subscribers on this Substack because this was going to be my big writing outlet. But a couple months after getting paid subscribers, DW hired me, and it always felt weird pimping my Substack too much with DW was buttering my bread. So maybe I can get more going here. I still hope to serialize the next Hellbender here after I finish the final Superego.
So what’s next for the day job? I don’t know. I’m looking at other media companies, but it’s also attractive to get a stable engineering job (as stable as they can be in the age of AI) and go back to just writing on the side.
And if you know anyone who could use a tech lead with lots of programming and AI experience or a humor writer (or both — those jobs occasionally exist), hit me up. In the least, send some prayers my way as I look into options and decide what to do.
And a special Studio Ghibli thanks from my family for all your support of my writing and other endeavors.
Hopefully this is an April Fool's post but if not: you'll land on your feet, man!!!! Give Megan McArdle's book The Up Side of Down a read- might be encouraging during a tough time...
That's a shame to hear. My family has really enjoyed Chip Chilla and much of the rest of the DW kids content. I hate to see that era come to a close. Will continue to follow your projects.
