The Only Path Forward Is a Religious Revival
People keep looking for new answers when it's the old ones we need
I remember how infants helped me appreciate the complexity of the communication of a dog. A dog, when it is whining about something, will try to show you what it needs fixed, such as going to the door because it wants to go outside or to its food bowl if it wants to be fed. But an infant will just cry, indicating something is wrong and give no further information. It is up to the parent to figure out what could be wrong and what needs fixing.
Sometimes society is like that, though. Everyone is complaining, but it’s about everything, which gives about the same amount of information as complaining about nothing. People know something is wrong, though. Look how miserable everyone is! Technically, we’re all richer than our ancestors, but we feel poorer. Something just seems off. And they want a solution even if they don’t know what that is.
Well, I will be the parent of the crying infant and tell you what is really wrong: We’ve lost our religion.
