Unless You're Taking on Entitlements, Shut Up About the Debt

Stop acting like you care about the debt if you won't take on the main source

We really hate our grandkids. And especially our great-grandkids.

I mean, that’s the best explanation of how we keep heaping up federal debt and keep kicking the can down the road for someone to do something about it.

Now, every once in a while, some people (mainly Republicans) talk about the problem of debt and how they’re going to do something about it. The Trump administration even made DOGE to try to find areas of efficiency to help with federal spending. It went into each department and looked at the numbers.

Did it look at these numbers?

Hey, take a look at that graph and tell me if you can find the main culprit there if you want to reduce federal spending.

And look at this one:

Notice some sort of trend that has to be reversed if we want to reduce spending?

But no, the efforts to reduce spending seem to always look like this dril tweet (replace “candles” with “entitlements”):

The efforts to reduce spending are like “let’s check that the Department of Transportation isn’t using too many paperclips” or “let’s reduce the 2% that goes to foreign aid.”

No, man — it’s the local aid that’s killing us.
