Want to End Political Division? Invest in Space

How space is the key to bringing our divided country together

We’re a very politically divided nation — getting almost violently so. Can we ever unite as a nation again? Well, I think we can, but we must stop looking at our problems on the ground and instead look up.

I think that space exploration is the key to bringing us all together. While many don’t like the idea of spending on space when it doesn’t directly solve any of our problems, what space gives us is the most important thing of all: perspective. Because space is vast and our planet is small.

When we can see the earth in one glimpse out the window of a spaceship, we can perceive how tiny the problems are we often argue over. Think of all the people we disagree with in a spaceship, watching the earth becoming smaller and smaller. Perhaps then they’ll understand. And now instead they’ll look forward to their destination — Mars. But they don’t see it. “What’s happening?” they’ll say to themselves. “I thought we were going to Mars.”
