We Should Have Unlimited Immigration -- as Long as They're Americans
Why America is more an idea than a place and people and why that means we have to crack down on illegal immigration
A long time ago, a group of colonists took some land in North America (which I guess the natives weren’t really using very much) and began to develop. Eventually, they threw off the shackles of Europe, and a new nation was formed.
But like how new?
I’ve seen a lot of debate lately about whether the U.S. is primarily a location and a people or if it’s something different than that — more an idea than a set location.
And I’ve seen the people arguing that it really is mainly soil, and those people are quite threatened by the notion that America is an idea. They see that as a justification for unlimited immigration, as it doesn’t matter what people are here since America is an idea and not a specific location and people — it’s like a statement that America’s sovereignty barely matters.
But I think that’s a misreading of things. In fact, I’d go so far as to say America must primarily be an idea, or it’s worthless. It’s garbage.
