Perhaps it was their newness to my sensibilities, but I thought Hellbender I more humorous than II (draft) and Superego I absolutely laugh out loud hysterical, II and III also very, very good but not quite as hysterical...I guess you only get one chance to make a first impression

Of course they're all wildly imaginative and humorous, full of fascinating, distinct characters, plot twisty works of superlative entertainment

Very much looking forward to reading the production "Hellbender II: Double Hockey Sticks" after reading the draft as a 'founder', likewise Superego IV (if given the opportunity)

Very proud to have appeared in the "Acknowledgements" section of "Superego: Betrayal", my first such appearance!, as a Frank Fleming substack subscription "founder"

For officially "spotting" you could simply require the bird to be inside a certain region of the view for sufficient time. Have a circular "wind-up" timer showing how long it needs to be held.

If you added some hopping (even of the 2d image), you'd have to track the bird a little to get the wind-up timer to keep going up.

Recommend variable zoom as well.

You should try some VR games to see what they've done for interfaces.

For a 1st-person game, Half-Life Alyx is the highest bar (and a perfect addition to the Half-Life universe -- seeing City 17 in VR, with a strider walking by is nuts).

For flying around, VTOL VR is amazing -- Space Docker is smaller, simpler and fun to zoom around in space, basically being a fork lift with some fun quirks.

Onward can be purchased on the Quest directly or on Steam, and is basically CounterStrike in VR

Yeah, I like having the player do something active to watch because it's dumb, but I will need to make it so you can track a moving bird and "watch" it.

One thing I quickly realized from playing VR is that I can't just have a button to put on binoculars but instead need to make one hand binoculars that you raise to your eyes to look into them. I was going to try to keep to 2D, hand-drawn sprites (but in a 3D space), but I'll need a polygon binoculars for that.

VR game sounds like a cool way to get the kids into the production (vs consumption) side of tech. I keep trying (and mostly failing) to do that with mine, but hopefully others are better at it than me. Random goody idea for the VR “watch” (from someone who has no idea what predefined/easy mode gestures Quest 2 supports)… maybe have people wave furiously at the bird, like a little kid trying to get an animal’s attention at the zoo. Kinda silly since having the bird notice you is (I think) the exact opposite of what real-life birdwatchers try to do. But that’s why *virtual* reality is so much cooler than real life right?
