Why I'm Not Voting to Reelect Texas Governor Greg Abbott
I don't like Beto, but I can't vote for Abbott
As you may know, I live in Texas. It’s been a strong red state with high growth, though Democrats are convinced they can turn it purple. Republican Greg Abbott has been governor of the state since 2015.
Now, this year Robert “Beto” O’Rourke is running against Gov. Abbott. Beto has a very left-wing policy agenda and at times seems like he’s running for the Governor of California rather than the Governor of Texas. This does not appeal to me at all, and I do worry he could mess things up in Texas as things have gone pretty well here for a while.
Still, I can’t bring myself to vote to reelect Gov. Abbott. And though I mainly like to say out of elections (I know you prefer me to be an unbiased writer), I felt it was important to explain my reasons. And I think if you read my reasons with an open mind, you’ll agree with my decision.
Reasons I’m Not Voting to Reelect Gov. Greg Abbott
I forgot to register to vote.
If you listen to advocates for either - not voting for Beto means you voted for Abbott and not voting for Abbott means you voted for Beto. So congratulations - you forgot to register and still got 2 votes. Not quite as good as writing in someone and getting three votes, but still pretty good.
Giggle.
